Hammerson extend their onemedia travel information solution to Bullring and Grand Central in Birmingham
The Bullring is Birmingham’s main shopping centre, it is connected a via link bridge to Grand Central which, when combined, make the UK’s largest city-based shopping centre.
The centre is managed by Hammerson, one of Europe’s leading property investment and development companies, whose principal activities include the acquisition, development and management of commercial and retail properties.
Project objectives
Onemedia began their relationship with Hammerson providing travel information and bespoke signage layouts to Union Square shopping centre in Aberdeen. Following the success of this project, we were approached to assist in rolling out a bespoke travel dashboard solution to Bullring and Grand Central.
The main purpose of the project was to reduce the travel anxiety of visitors by providing accurate local transport information at key points in each of the centres. This required highly accurate transport feeds that are easily legible for visitors to read at key dwell points. The solution also needed to consume a low amount of energy with minimal visual impact to the centre’s design. This would enable shoppers to make informed decisions regarding travelling home from the centre and may influence them in prolonging their visit and making additional purchases.
Project delivery using ONELAN platform
Onemedia provided bespoke on-brand portrait and landscape travel dashboard designs that show a variety of travel information such as bus, coach and rail departures. The designs were created using Hammerson’s striking branding and maximising the zone sizes for the travel apps to ensure legibility. The travel information is organised depending on the location of the screen within the centre and the nearest bus stops with careful consideration to the amount of departure information being displayed.
ONELAN Net-Top-Box players deliver the real-time content to the screens and ONELAN’s leading enterprise-level Content Management System is used to centrally manage the content across their estate. Hammerson reap the benefits of the onemedia support contract which includes any changes to the information provided and assisting with staff training. Onemedia also monitor the screens on a regular basis to ensure that they are running as expected, assisting in spotting any potential problems before they arise.
The scalable and robust signage platform together with the clear on-brand designs and flexible content ensure that the solution can be rolled out to further Hammerson sites in the future.
